Attic

Support

Attic requires macOS 14 or later. It lives in the menu bar and has no Dock icon.

How do I open the panel?

Move the pointer to the top edge and scroll down with two fingers on a trackpad or with your mouse wheel. The default hotkey is ⌥⌘U. You can also drag a file to the top edge, or click the Attic menu bar icon → Show Panel. Press Esc or click outside to close it. For a side panel, pause at the corresponding screen edge. Change these in Settings → Activation / Panel Position / Hotkeys.

Why is clipboard history missing?

Check that Record Clipboard is on in the menu bar or Settings → Clipboard. Then check the trial status in Settings → Unlock. Copy some plain text again after enabling recording; content copied while recording was off is not added later. Items marked confidential or temporary by their source app are skipped.

If macOS asks for clipboard access, choose the option you want. Denied access may prevent recording. Prompts and controls vary by system version; follow the system's instructions. You do not need to enable Accessibility, Input Monitoring or Full Disk Access as a troubleshooting step.

Trial and unlock

Open Settings → Unlock, click the unlock button and follow the App Store purchase prompts.

After expiry you can still view, copy and drag existing content out, delete items, export notes and reveal files in Finder. New clipboard recording, adding files or shortcuts, and creating or editing notes stop until you unlock.

How do I restore a purchase?

For the App Store edition, sign in to the App Store with the Apple Account used to purchase. Open Settings → Unlock → Restore Purchases. If no purchase is found, check the account and connection, then try again. A cancelled or pending transaction is not a completed purchase.

How do I redeem a code?

On macOS 15 or later, open Settings → Unlock → Redeem Code in the App Store edition, then use a valid offer code in Apple's sheet. The button is absent on macOS 14; try the Apple redemption link supplied with the code if available. Apple determines compatibility. Return to Attic after redemption and restore purchases if needed. Region, expiry and eligibility rules are set by Apple.

The website edition is not yet available. Future website coupons will be used at checkout to obtain a license; they cannot be entered in Apple's redemption sheet. Website licenses do not restore an App Store purchase.

Can I move data to a synced folder?

Back up first. In Settings → General → Attic Folder → Change…, choose a location managed by your sync tool, then click Move and Restart. Notes, clipboard history and the default Shelf move together. Files stored separately stay where they are. The target Attic folder must be empty. Your sync tool handles uploads; Attic has no built-in cloud sync or multi-device conflict merging. Avoid editing on multiple devices at once, and protect sensitive content before syncing.

Where is data after uninstalling?

Before uninstalling, find the current Attic folder in Settings → General and back it up. The App Store sandbox default is usually ~/Library/Containers/com.langyy.attic/Data/Library/Application Support/Attic/. Earlier local builds without sandboxing use ~/Library/Application Support/Attic/. Custom folders, external notes and files referenced by shortcuts stay in their original locations.

Deleting the app does not necessarily delete these files. Keychain trial or website license records may remain. For complete removal, quit the app and review your backups and data folders yourself. File deletion in Attic uses the system Trash; cleared clipboard history cannot be recovered.
